Goidsargi Estibaliz Carranza Zabala, better known as Esti, wanted what most women want, a happy, married, successful life. Fleeing from her life in Spain after the heartbreaking end of a 5 year relationship, Esti found a new in Germany and then Austria working at an ice cream parlor and quickly finding love and then a marriage to Holgen Holz…then Manfred Hinterberger… then Roland R. When the relationships would turn sour her fantasies of killing or revenge would overtake her and her preferred tools: a gun, chainsaw, and cement. Survivor Interview: Patricia Wenskunas, Founder/CEO of Crime Survivors Inc.
Friday Jul 05, 2024
Friday Jul 05, 2024
Patricia Wenskunas is the Founder/CEO of Crime Survivors Inc. and has gained national renown for her tireless advocacy on behalf of the victims of violent crime. Crime Survivors is dedicated to the proposition that with community support, respectful advocacy and hopeful healing, one can survive a violent crime, and thrive in their personal lives. Ms. Wenskunas stresses the important distinction between being a victim and a survivor, and it is this mindset that forms the basis for the organization’s universally-praised work.
Ms. Wenskunas’ passion to assist those who have been victimized by criminal attacks and tragedy is driven by her own personal experiences at the hands of a vicious assailant in her own home on April 4, 2002, and the humiliation and injustice she experienced at the hands of the criminal justice system. In both instances, Ms. Wenskunas fought back and prevailed. It was through these tremendously negative experiences that she found her courage and her voice, and has used them both to help others to be transposed from victims to survivors ever since.
Ms. Wenskunas was one of the early proponents of California’s Victim’s Bill of Rights known as “Marsy’s Law,” a state constitutional amendment that was passed into law by California’s voters in 2008. Intended to help re-balance the scales of justice so that survivors and the families of murder victims would have rights too, “Marsy’s Law” is now part of the California State Constitution, as well as certain sections of the state’s Penal Code.
Ms. Wenskunas’ civic involvement extends well beyond the organization she founded. She is the Founder and former CEO of Orange County Crime Stoppers, an Advisory Board member at CalVCP, a Board member at Crime Victims United, and a past Board Member for The Children’s Advocacy Center and California Crime Stoppers.
Professionally, Patricia’s has found success as the owner of Creative Coordinating, a catering and event planning company. Her culinary artistry and event planning expertise has helped to make the firm one of Orange County’s leading catering and event planning companies. Ms. Wenskunas remains passionately involved with victim’s rights issues and is an acknowledged spokesperson who is frequently sought out to deliver awareness on a host of issues through presentations for church groups, high schools, forums, women’s groups, victims organizations & law enforcement agencies.
Patricia has paved the way for victims of violent crime to truly survive and thrive. Today she forges ahead fighting and championing for victims when they don’t have the strength to do it on their own. She has truly become a voice for the voiceless.

Surviving a Predator: Patricia Wenskunas' Tale of Survival
Wednesday Jul 03, 2024
Wednesday Jul 03, 2024
In June of 2001, 32 yo Patricia Wenskunas was a single mother living in Irvine, CA struggling with body image issues and disordered eating due to an extensive history of trauma. So June of that year, Patricia decided to seek some help to finally get through the struggles she had for years. She found herself at 24 Hour Fitness near Irvine working with Jeffrey Kelavos, a personal trainer who claimed to be a registered nurse who also had knowledge of eating disorders. What a perfect fit, right? However, over the course of the next 9 months, things would start to shift in Jeffrey’s behavior, and he began controlling more and more of Patricia's life. On April of 2002, everything in Patricia’s life would come to a screeching halt. Patricia would soon fall victim to someone she trusted who drugged her, viciously attacked her, and tried to kill her. Somehow, Patricia managed to escape, and thus began the excruciating journey of life after surviving attempted murder. Don’t miss this episode as we discuss just how easy it is to fall victim to highly manipulative and exploitive predators as well as the many aspects of re-victimization that survivors of crime often face at the hands of the legal system. We want to give an extra special ‘thank you’ to Patricia herself who collaborated with us, provided guidance and consent to share her story. Make sure to tune in on Friday to listen to the interview with Patricia Wenskunas herself as she shares her survival experience firsthand, her post-victimization journey, and life-long advocacy for victims of crime.

Cain and Abel: The Murder of Zetta Camille Arfmann
Wednesday Jun 26, 2024
Wednesday Jun 26, 2024
In November of 1999, Zetta Camille Arfmann was a 14-year-old freshman at Oskaloosa High School in Oskaloosa, Kansas. She had recently moved in with her sister, Heidi Bledsoe, Heidi’s husband, Floyd and the couple’s children Cody and Christian. This move proved good for Camille, as she quickly began to succeed academically, becoming an honor roll student, and found stability with Heidi and Floyd. Shortly after her move, tragedy would strike. On November 5th, 1999, Camille was dropped off at her home by the bus driver wand was seen walking towards her home. That was the last time Camille Arfmann was seen alive. After a frantic search into her disappearance and the discovery of her body days later on a family farm, a small town would be pushed and pulled over allegations that centered around two brothers: Tom and Floyd Bledsoe. It would take 16 years of pain and mystery before the truth finally came to light as to what really happened to Camille. A good old fashioned ‘whodunnit’ case that will have you bewildered and blind-sided at every turn.

Psychopathic Predator (Part 2): The Horrific Crimes of Nathaniel Bar-Jonah
Thursday Jun 20, 2024
Thursday Jun 20, 2024
Nathaniel Benjamin Levi Bar-Jonah, born David Paul Brown, was born in 1957 in Worcester, Massachusetts. Beginning with many troubles in his early life, much of his upbringing remains shrouded in obscurity. What we do know is that it became evident early on in his life that there would be a pattern of violence that spanned a lifetime. With him collecting his first victim, a 5-year-old girl, when he was only 7 years old. Bar-Jonah, despite slipping through the cracks of an imperfect judicial system, was a brutal child predator who was allowed to haunt the American landscape in the latter half of the 20th century. While the full extent of his crimes may never be known, evidence suggests that Bar-Jonah is believed to be responsible for the innumerable crimes against children involving kidnapping, torture, sexual assault and murder. Hang out with us as we finish up this grizzly case to involve gruesome findings in Bar-Jonah's home, a trail and convictions. FINALLY. Don't miss the interview with Forensic Psychologist Dr. Jay Toomey and we explore forensic evaluations and, more specifically, psychopathy. Interview drops Friday 6/21.

Catfished: The Twisted Murder of Cynthia "CeCe" Hoffman
Wednesday Jun 12, 2024
Wednesday Jun 12, 2024
GRAPHIC CONTENT WARNING: This episode includes content and discussions around child sexual abuse, sexual assault, sexual offending behaviors, and child pornography. Listener discretion is advised.
On June 2, 2019, Cynthia “Cece” Hoffman told her dad she was going hiking with her best friend Denali Brehmer, and she would see him later. Papa Hoffman wasn’t worried about this outing because CeCe was responsible, always careful, and always did what she was supposed to do. He also knew Cece had her phone and she always followed the family rule: if dad calls, answer immediately. No questions asked. No excuses. At some point on that fateful day, CeCe didn't answer her father's calls, and it would turn out that when she left for her outing that morning, would be the last time Papa Hoffman saw his sweet little girl alive. The details around the murder of Cece Hoffman would expose a dark web of lies, manipulation, exploitation, and murder for hire scheme totaling 9 million dollars. Who is Tyler the Millionaire? Why does the Hoffman family know CeCe's BFF Denali as “Angel”? Can victims also be perpetrators? Bailey and Chelsea will explore the aspects of this case, and as Anchorage Police Chief Michael Kerle would state, “this case is an excellent example of why various law enforcement entities working together through the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force is so vitally important”. This one is a doozy, y'all.

James R. Fitzgerald is a retired FBI Supervisory Special Agent, Criminal Profiler, Forensic Linguist and former Member of the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit. Early in his career, Jim graduated from Penn State University with a degree in criminal justice then spending eleven years working with the Bensalem (PA) Police Department (BPD). Jim would soon advance to being a criminal profiler with the FBI’s BAU. Throughout his career, Jim has been involved in infamous cases such as the Unabomber, Jon Benet Ramsey, the DC Sniper, the Anthrax investigation, and many others. Jim would eventually earn two master’s degrees becoming an expert in forensic linguistics and retired from the FBI in November of 2007. Jim continues to work as a profiler and forensic linguist. Jim has also been one of two technical advisors on the CBS-TV series Criminal Minds, a co-host and executive producer of A&E’s Killer Profile, a “Consulting Producer” for the Discovery Channel scripted series Manhunt: Unabomber (now on Amazon) and authoring three books (soon to be four) in his memoir series, A Journey to the Center of the Mind. Jim now runs his own company focusing on language-related investigations, analyses, and assessments: James R. Fitzgerald Associates, LLC.

Mafia Manhunt: The Murder of Special Agent Everett E. Hatcher
Wednesday Jun 05, 2024
Wednesday Jun 05, 2024
Special Agent Everett Emerson Hatcher was one badass dude and accomplished a lot in his 46 years. Tragically, Special Agent Hatcher’s dedication to law enforcement ended on February 28, 1989, when he was murdered during an undercover operation on Staten Island. Special Agent Hatcher had been trying to infiltrate a cocaine trafficking ring run by associates of the Bonanno crime family. One such associate, mob figure, Costabile “Gus” Farace, was the prime suspect in the killing of Special Agent Hatcher and became the object of a massive manhunt; a manhunt so intense that it literally created a war amongst New York’s mafia and the feds. The Hatcher case highlights the complexities of undercover operations and the calculated risks taken by law enforcement personnel. It also raises questions about the infiltration of criminal organizations by organized crime itself. Tune in as Chelsea and Bailey explore the life and service of Special Agent Hatcher, the details surrounding his death, and the impact of his sacrifice. Buckle up, y’all because this is one of the wildest cases we’ve covered where we get a real life look into the soft white underbelly of the Mafia and even their collaboration with federal law enforcement agencies to smoke out a psychopathic, roid-raged problem that found himself at the top of America’s Top Ten Most Wanted.
